The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality (named after the former President of South Africa) includes Port Elizabeth and has an estimated population of over 1,5 million people that makes it the fifth largest city in South Africa. Port Elizabeth offers an interesting selection of tourist attractions, such as historic heritage, wonderful wildlife in various game parks and reserves, cultural experiences and 40 km of the most breathtaking beaches along the unspoilt coastline, which forms part of the Sunshine Coast of South Africa. The city has a well-equipped airport, harbour and port and is therefore suitably linked with other national and international destinations for the tourist's comfort. Port Elizabeth is a value-for-money holiday centre with warmth and hospitality and offers many tourist routes of which the magnificent Garden Route is the most popular.
